Medical City Arlington proudly announces that it is the first hospital in Tarrant County to acquire the da Vinci Skills Simulator. In addition to the Skills Simulator, MCA is the first in Arlington to have the latest in robotic technology, the da Vinci Si. The Medical City Arlington will utilize the Si for Cardiovascular, Gynecological, Urological, and Colorectal robotic surgery. The Si is the newest version of the revolutionary da Vinci Robotic Surgical System and is designed to provide additional clinical benefits and efficiency in the operating room. The Si offers features such as enhanced 3D, high-definition vision of the operative field, superior visual clarity of tissue and anatomy, and surgical dexterity and precision far greater than the human hand. These technological advancements will provide MCA surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures.
The new virtual-reality training simulator helps surgeons at Medical City Arlington practice on the da Vinci Si surgical system, a state-of-the-art platform for minimally-invasive surgery. The da Vinci Skills Simulator looks and feels like the real thing, but instead of using physical instruments, surgeons get to interact with virtual needles and objects. The device contains a variety of exercises designed to give surgeons the opportunity to improve their proficiency with the da Vinci system.
Simulation in all forms is becoming an important part of the learning experience for surgical technology. By providing a controlled re-creation of critical steps in instrument control, simulation allows surgeons to practice their skills in a non-clinical environment that once required expensive models or cadavers for learning. The da Vinci Skills Simulator provides surgeons with objective feedback on their performance when they complete an exercise. Over time, surgeons can track their progress on the device and work to improve their skills before they use it on patients.
"Medical City Arlington is extremely pleased to bring this level of robotic technology to Arlington and Tarrant County" said Winston Borland, President and CEO of Medical City Arlington. "The da Vinci will enable our patients to have a faster recovery, less blood loss, and less pain after surgery. We want to offer our community advanced care close to home, and the da Vinci will allow us to do so."
