Ben Coogan was named Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Medical City Arlington effective Monday, Oct. 12. Coogan replaces LaSharndra Barbarin, who joined Medical City Lewisville last summer as Chief Executive Officer.
As COO, Coogan is responsible for the operations of the 342-bed, full-service hospital with more than 1,100 physicians, nurses, podiatrists and dentists.
Previously, Coogan led the market leadership efforts for Cigna’s network and contracting functions in North Texas and Oklahoma. He also has served as assistant vice president of Medical City and Medical City Children’s Hospital in Dallas. He was responsible for the Physician Services department and managed multiple service lines including general and bariatric surgery, robotic surgery, gastroenterology and primary care. Coogan has also held hospital operations and practice management roles with the Baylor Scott and White System, including responsibility as a regional practice administrator with the Health Texas Provider Network.
He began his hospital career at the Medical City Plano in 2006 in Physician Relations. He earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Texas A&M University and Master of Business Administration in health services management from the University of North Texas.
